Problem -

FRONT BRAKE NOISE / SQUEAL

After front brake pad replacement, a noise / squeal may be heard.

Cause

Replacement front brake pads not fitted correctly, due to not adhering to the Workshop Manual repair procedure.

Action

When replacing the front brake pads, the Workshop Manual repair procedure must be adhered to. Refer to Workshop Manual, part number LRL0350 (3rd edition), Brakes, Shoes/pads - front - set, repair number 70.40.02.

The leading edge of the front brake pads have chamfers on them, the chamfers are asymmetric.

CAUTION: It is imperative that the pads are correctly fitted. Pad 'A' must be fitted to the inboard side of the left hand caliper and pad 'B' must be fitted to the outboard side of the left hand caliper, see illustration 1.

Pad 'D' must be fitted to the inboard side of the right hand caliper and pad 'C' must be fitted to the outboard side of the right hand caliper, see illustration 2.

A suffix code printed along the side of the brake pad states the correct position for the brake pad in the caliper.

NOTE: Front brake pads must not be fitted to the vehicle if the anti-squeal shim bonded to the rear of the brake pad has become loose or detached.
