EXCESSIVE TYRE NOISE

Bulletin Number - 0008

Issue - 2

Date - 02.06.1999

Model - Freelander

Affected Range - All derivatives

Re-Issue Information - ACTION
text amended to show revised road wheel refitting operation.

Problem - EXCESSIVE TYRE NOISE

The customer complains of tyre noise which is developing as the vehicle mileage increases.

Cause

Uneven wear to the tyre tread blocks, resulting in increased tyre noise.

Action

At the main ‘A’ and ‘B’ services, it is now a requirement to switch the REAR roadwheels from side to side of the vehicle. Maintenance Check Sheet LRL 0162 will be amended at the next re-issue to reflect this, (sample copy attached).

Operation 14 will now read:

‘Apply anti seize compound. Refit FRONT road wheels to ORIGINAL positions and REAR road wheels to OPPOSITE sides of REAR axle’. Wheels must NOT be switched diagonally or the front wheels switched from side to side. Please ensure that all Service personnel are aware of this change.
