Problem -

FUEL TANK DIFFICULT TO FILL - BREATHER

Customer experiences difficulty in adding fuel to tank due to either fuel spit back or fuel delivery cut off.

Cause

Condition is due to variations in fuel pump delivery rates and fuel filler nozzle design.

Action

If satisfied that the owner is filling the vehicle correctly (refer to Owners Handbook Fuel System - Fuel Filling)and that no breathing restrictions exist, replace the fuel filler breather assembly with modified part WJL100200.

The new breather assembly is fully interchangeable with the old and removal of the complete filler neck is not required.

Replace breather assembly as follows: Ensure that fuel handling precautions are observed. Refer to Workshop Manual General Information.

1. Raise right hand rear of vehicle, remove road wheel and wheel arch liner.

2. Remove three screws securing breather assembly to body, (refer to illustration).

3. Release clip and remove breather assembly from filler hose.

4. Release clips from breather hose and charcoal canister hose and remove breather assembly from vehicle.

5. Reverse above procedure to fit new breather assembly, aligning and fitting screws to body after all hoses are connected.
