Problem -

NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE - REAR DIFFERENTIAL

An increase in bearing or gear noise may be experienced from the rear differential.

NOTE: This should not be confused with rear tyre noise that is described in Technical Bulletin 0008.

Cause

Left hand differential carrier bearing worn.

Action

Where a complaint of the above is confirmed, replace the rear differential with a new differential now available from Land Rover Parts. The new differential has been designed to incorporate larger differential carrier bearings.

NOTE: The new specification differential is compatible with all Intermediate Reduction Drive (IRD) unit designs and ratios.

Replace the rear differential assembly, refer to Workshop Manual, Rear Axle And Final Drive, Differential Assembly, repair number 51.15.01.
