Problem -
TRANSMISSION CHATTER AT LOW ENGINE SPEED - DRIVEN PLATE
The customer complains of a chatter or rattle noise at low engine speed or when idling. May be incorrectly diagnosed as engine rattle.
Cause
Insufficient internal damping of the clutch driven plate.
Action
Confirm cause by gradually raising engine speed, chatter noise should quickly disappear. The noise will also cease when the clutch pedal is depressed.
If the condition is confirmed, replace the clutch driven plate for the new part detailed in PARTS INFORMATION.
Refer to Workshop Manual repair number 33.10.07 - Clutch Assembly - Td4, for repair details.
Inspect clutch cover as described in the Workshop Manual. If no excess wear or diaphragm deformity is detected the part may be re-used.
